The blue cave
Bisevo is a small is let in the SE Adriatic, famous for its Blue Grotto, which is a rare natural phenomenon. Of about ten caves scattered around Bisevo’s coast, the Blue Cave is the most outstanding. Blue cave on the island Bisevo is located on the eastern island Bisevo in Croatia. Blue is the color of the cave because of refraction. The cave is accessible since 1884, and approach is possible only by boat. The coastal sea belt is rich fishing area.
The cave itself is 24 meters long, 10–12 meters deep and up to 15 meters high, while the entrance to it measures 1.5 meters high and 2.5 meters wide. This blue grotto has a natural entrance below the sea level. Also the way to enter the cave was originally by diving. The cave has two openings, a small, artificially deepened in 1884 , which can pass through the small boat. Depth is 3 to 20 m .
The natural entrance to the cave, located on its southern side, is said to resemble a vault on the ceiling of a grotto.
Depending on the season, the ideal moment to visit the cave is between 11 and 12 o’clock in the morning. At this time of day the sunlight reflects through the water coming from the white floor of the cave and bathes the grotto in aquamarine light. The easiest way to get to Bisevo and the Blue Cave is to take one of the excursion boats that runs daily from Komiza in the summer.
