1864 The Sea Captain’s House

1864 The Sea Captain’s House was built by the Sigouras Sarris family after the Greek War of Independence from the Turkish rule. The boutique hotel consists of three, grand 19th-century houses built in the traditional Santorini style with Renaissance flourishes. The House is positioned at the clifftop, just 12 steps down from the main path that runs through the village of Oia.

This is a very grand place, with double-terraced front with false pillars of volcanic red rock, courtyard and wide-plank floors. The interior incorporates the traditional local elements: high, cross vaulted ceilings, walls built from black and red volcanic stones. Your views is dazzling by day and star-scattered by night, taking in the ocean and the amazing Santorini volcanoes with their surrounding. The rooms carved into the cliff’s rocks and the traditional window over the outer and inner doorways. All the rooms have canopy beds and are crammed with antiques and local artwork. There are a satellite TV, DVD and CD players and Wi-Fi.

A new in-house spa offers leisurely massages and facials, an outdoor whirlpool and small sauna that’s almost always enjoyed in blissful solitude. There are also two of the best local restaurants that offer delicious Greek dishes for lunch or dinner. Guests at Sea Captain’s House start their day with a “lazy” champagne breakfast which is served any time on the roof terrace.
