One of the must see locations on a visit to the Costa del Sol
Dates back to Ancient Roman times, Ronda is a beautiful, well preserved historic town just 30 minutes from Marbella, Sunny Spain. It sits 740m above sea level on a dramatic rocky outcrop encased by the Serrania de Ronda and it’s one of the most visited places in Andalucia and attracts thousands of visitors every year. Ernest Hemingway resided in Ronda for many years and wrote about its beauty in “For Whom the Bell Tolls” and “Death in the Afternoon”.
The town is split in two sections by a 100m deep El Tajo canyon. The abyss known as the “Gesm” is the third deepest in the world. This spectacular gorge is bridged by the New Bridge built in 1751 which took 42 years to build. The mountain landscape with its dramatic cliffs is impressive. The tourists come to marvel at the bridge and the cliff and this magnificent structure is one of the most photographed in Spain.
Ronda has packaged its many attractions well to serve tourist day trippers. Historic attractions include a striking 18th century viaduct bridge, Baroque chapels, Arab Baths and the panoramic views from Alameda del Tajo park particularly take your breath away.
