Canyon de Chelly
Canyon de Chelly is a national monument, located in northeastern Arizona within the boundaries of the Navajo Nation. The canyon preserves ruins of early indigenous tribes, that lived once in the area. The monument covers 339 square km and encompasses the floors and rims of the three major canyons: de Chelly, del Muerto, and Monument.

Access to the canyon floor is restricted, and visitors are allowed to travel in the canyons only when accompanied by a park ranger or an authorized Navajo guide. The only exception to this rule is the White House Ruin Trail. Most park visitors arrive by automobile and view Canyon de Chelly from the rim, following both North Rim Drive and South Rim Drive. Ancient ruins and geologic structures are visible, but in the distance, from turnoffs on each of these routes.

At the month of the canyon, there is a beautiful inn, ideal stop for a hearty meal and a good night’s rest before touring the Anasazi sites and spectacular southwestern scenery. Chelly Inn is the only Chinle hotel with hot tub, sauna and indoor pool available 24 hours and high speed internet service for your convenience. When you’re ready to explore the countryside Canyon de Chelly National Monument offers visitors a wide vista of activities, learning and good times. There you’ll have the opportunity to learn about Southwestern Indian history from the earliest Anaszai basketmakers to the Navajo Indians who live and farm here today.
