Sankeys

Sankeys is one of Manchester‘s most internationally known clubs. Consistently voted in the top club charts in DJ Magazine, it is a club for those whose weekend soundtrack of choice is house and techno. Sankeys is an amazing venue with an amazing atmosphere which attracts a varied crowd, for hosting Tribal Sessions on Friday/Saturday nights. Recently renovated, inside Sankeys there is a bar lit with soft red lighting and past this a small seating area which leads through to the main dance floor. It is not the largest, and can get quite crammed, but this just adds to the hyped up feeling of the night. There are a couple of raised platforms where you can observe the scene unfolding but this view is normally obscured by the masses of dry ice that’s pumped onto the dance floor.

There’s always quite a diverse crowd in attendance, it is one of the few Manchester clubs that still manages to pull in a good mixture of age ranges. Well known for its variety of dance music which veers away from the mainstream club feel, Sankeys has a real range of music playing, and it usually hosts more specialised nights with specific well established DJs. On its weekly nights deep house, tribal, breakbeat and funky house are the usual genres. It is best to see check the line up before you rock up as if a popular DJ is on then the night may require tickets and already be sold out. There’s also the occasional band night and it makes quite a nice alternative venue to watch and upcoming Manchester bands play one of their first gigs.

Resident DJ Greg Vickers does the Friday night Tribal Session along with some of the greats such as Pete Tong and Justin Robertson. If music of the electronic persuasion is your thing, in pretty much any of its forms, Sankeys is definitely the place to check out in Manchester. Sankeys is a good night out and made all the better when it’s the destination for a big name DJ. it is definitely worth a visit even only to say you’ve been to the legend – Sankeys.
