There are 65 luxurious rooms, all have king-size beds, luxury bathrooms with sunken bath, a CD stereo, hammock-strung balconies and are decorated with bamboo shutters (the bamboo is harvested on the property), hand-painted Mexican tiles from Puebla, finely-woven bedcovers, wooden furniture from the hotel’s own workshops and art by the hotel’s resident painter.

The restaurant serves excellent cuisine to the international standards. You can have a simple lunch of Yucatecan lime soup with chicken and tortilla strips served by the side of the beach, or something mmore sophisticated like cochinita pibil accompanied by a glass of the finest white wine. Dinner can be accompanied by candlelight and crystal, live piano music. Breakfast is the delightful experience: with half a dozen fresh juices, delicate freshly baked croissant and pastries, a generous portion of eggs ranchero and excellent coffee.

The resort offers a holistic package of treatments including massage, reiki, reflexology, mud baths, temazcal and yoga, by appointment. In addition swimming and snorkelling in the shallow, clear water is superb and the white sand beach is perfect for long walks. Windsurfing, dinghy-sailing and sea kayaking can also be arranged on the premises.

Location: Maroma is situated along the Maya Riviera in Yucatan, at the edge of a jungle reserve in Mexico. When to go: November to April for the most sunshine though it can rain at anytime of year. For lower prices go May – mid December. The wettest months are June through October (the hurricane season) when temperatures are also at their highest.
