In a country blessed with multitude of beautiful landscapes, Spis is considered a little bit special, even by the Slovaks. Interestingly, the region has no official status with Slovakia. It is not an administrative area but rather a place defined by its shared culture, dialect and dress. For the Slovakians its influence is profound – everyone can tell you how to get there. Landscape artists flock to Kazimierz Dolny because it is thought to be blessed with an effervescent light. The appeal of the tiny, sleepy town has not been lost on film directors, either who have often used its atmospheric streets as a setting for romances and historical thrillers. Sitting proudly on the banks of the Vistula River, Kazimiers Dolny in eastern Poland is flush with cobbled streets lined with historical buildings. A laid-back retreat for stressed-out city dwellers who swarm there during the summer months from the nearby cities of Warsaw and Lublin. Photo by: ben.tastic

Boca del Lobo Restaurant is located in the splendid neighborhood of La Mariscal, Ecuador. The restaurant features brightly lit, colorfully painted glass-encased patio with funky chandeliers, hanging birdcages, and faux renaissance portraits. La Boca del Lobo sticks out as the most flamboyant joint in the Mariscal’s somewhat low-key gringo scene. It’s no wonder then that La Boca del Lobo is also gay-friendly, and you’ll find Quito’s “beautiful people” here mixed in with upper-scale gringo tourists.

The Hotel Inntel in Zaandam, Netherlands looks like a pileup of of traditional Dutch houses, all painted in bright greens and blue colours with windows and roofs pulling and pushing viewer’s eye. The Hotel Inntel Zaandam is a madcap fairytale of a building. In fact, this 12-storey structure is, for a while, hard to take in. It looks like a trick, a conjuring act. The hotel is also a quirky addition to the skyline of Zaandam, capital of the Zaanstad region and a town best known for its cocoa, biscuits and Europe’s first McDonald’s.
