Bushman’s Kloof Wilderness Reserve

Bushman's Kloof

There is something spiritual about swimming in the rock pools of Bushman’s Koof. Perhaps it comes from the knowledge that they are ancient aspects of this awe-inspiring landscape, or maybe it is because the water is so crystal clear you feel as though you are suspended by air. The reserve is located in the heart of Cederberg Mountains, South Africa, a three-hour drive from Cape Town, overflows with natural wonders. As well as the mystical pools, there are jagged rock formations, indigenous gardens, and mountainous terrain that provide sanctuary for a myriad of wildlife, including the endangered Cape Mountain zebra.

Bushman’s Koof hosts daily visits to unique rock-art sites that it also guards and conserves. The mountain drawings were produced by the Bushman tribes as long as 120,000 years ago. Nature drives give opportunities to encounter the wildlife and ever-changing landscape, dramatically carpeted in colorful Cape wildflowers each spring. Drink are served at scenic spots, and breakfast are laid on next to the cascading waterfalls. Other activities include fishing in the Biedouw River and indulging in spa treatments.

The individually designed rooms have bathrooms, terraces, and in some cases lounges and fireplaces. For the ultimate treat, there is Koro Lodge, a fine villa with a pool, chef, and guide. Meals make use of the retreat’s organic garden and local produce.
