Baltic holiday – Gauja National Park

One of the most popular destinations in Latvia, The Gauja National Park offers good opportunities for tourism and recreation. Covering 91745 hectares of deep foliage forests, red sandstone cliffs and grottoes, the park protects a diverse range of flora and fauna. About 900 plant species, 149 different birds and 48 varieties of wild animals live here.

Other treasures include over 500 archaeological and art monuments such as castles, churches, manors, water and windmills. In the territory of the national park is located one of the most picturesque towns in Latvia – Sigulda. Often called „Switzerland of Latvia”, it’s famous for Middle Ages castles ruins of Livonian Order Knights.

Here are available a lot of activities to do – trekking, biking, cycling, horse riding, bungee jumping, flying in wind tunnel, bird watching, flying in air-balloon and more. The park offers fabulous canoeing and rafting opportunities. Also there is bobsleigh track and down-hill skiing routes making The Gauja National Park is the famous winter sport resort.
