Mowani Mountain Camp
Nestled between the Ugab and Huab rivers, Mowani Mountain Camp, which means ‘place of god’, sits in the heart of the Twyfelfontein area in western Namibia. From a distance, the elevated collection of domed, thatched rooftops looks like an African village, but this is no ordinary place to stay. Photo by: Lion King Travel ?????

Some of the elegantly decorated tents (complete with bathroom) face west, looking out across the distant valley, whereas others are placed to take in the view east, to see the morning sun rise. Beds in the tents have crisp, white linen, and outside there’s a wooden deck area to soak up the Damara landscape. Photo by: dap73

Each thatched suite has a private butler service catering to your energy need. There are indoor and outdoor bathrooms and a shower with a view, the perfect way to wake up.The pool is set between boulders and has a deck area to enjoy the searing African sun. The surroundings of the boulder-strewn valley are reminiscent of a prehistoric age, and the unspoiled wilderness and desert scenery hide geological formations, archeological sites with ancient rock art, and a unique variety of flora and fauna. Go off on a nature drive in search of elusive herds of desert elephants and hike across the upland scenery. Photo by: dap73

The amazing 2,500-year-old rock formations at Twyfelfontein are the big draw in this corner of Namibia, along with the engravings and paintings made by bushmen from the same period. Photo by: jthetzel
