The Penang Global City Centre is a project located on Penang Island, Malaysia. The design is centered on the idea of creating a new image for the city of Penang. Resembling a sci-fi city, the area will be crowned by two sixty-story towers housing luxury residential units and five-star hotels. Also the complex includes the Penang Performing Arts Center (PenPAC), a high world-class entertainment complex, an observatory, a vast public arena and more….

50,000 sq m of Hotel and Service Apartments? That’s amazing! Once the Penang Global City Centre comes up, there should be no shortage of luxury Penang hotels.

there is no shortage. they have already oversupplied and overbuilt. thousands of apartments remain empty and there is currently not enough demand from recreational and mainland-island migrants. how will this huge, domineering ‘sci-fi’ structure fit with the traditional culture that is what attracts so many to this special island? we try so hard to maintain its identity yet projects like these make the efforts feel like ‘one step forwards two steps back’.

I love my Penang the way it has always been, an island I regards as heaven on earth n am very boastful about it…but this structure makes Penang ugly. What a waste of money? Why don’t be sensible improving Penang bridge? From west Yorkshire England

Not at all concerned about the construction of this stunning building at all. Penang like all cities needs to expand and grow. We shouldn’t take a cloistered view on a development that can move the State forward. Penang can preserve its heritage and yet move forward with the times – all it needs in tandem are good infrastructure like good road and transport systems to support such development. Nottingham, UK
