Hotel Monasterio
Gisele Bundchen and Leonardo DiCaprio have laid their heads on the soft linen pillows in Cusco’s Hotel Monasterio, one of the luxury properties at the vanguard of South America‘s style revolution. Converted from a sixteenth-century monastery and build around a cloistered courtyard, the Monasterio has an ambience of calm efficiency. Gregorian chants accompany the serene breakfast buffet, a private chapel is at your disposal, and the bath butler service offers a soak fit for an Andean princess. Photo by: thejennyallen

The heart of the hotel is a central courtyard with soft fountain and 300-year-old cedar tree surrounded by gardens. The hotel take a very modern approach to the issue of altitude sickness (the thin air at high altitude deprives the body of up to 30 percent of usual oxygen levels). Fifty bedrooms here are enriched with oxygen gently pumped through filters to reduce atmospheric pressure. It is all part of life enjoying Cusco‘s finer side. Photo by: PierreG_09
