Hakone National Park
Hakone National Park is one of five parks that make up Japan‘s Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, centered around Lake Ashi, a respectful site in Japan with breathtaking views of the majestic Mount Fuji, which is 3,776 m high. Photo by: ch3nyong

Located within a volcanic region, Hakone is famous for its hot springs, health resort, spas, and treatment centers. The area has long been thought to possess magical qualities and people seeking rejuvenation flock here in the thousands. Never fear if you have not booked into one of the treatment hotels; it is still possible to enjoy a sake bath with green tea. Photo by: Kirsty Komuso

After trekking the peaks of mounts Komagatake and Kanmurigatake, take a look at Hakone Kowakien Yunessun, which is a hot springs spa resort and water amusement park open to the public all year-round. Those seeking a longer life, head to Owakundani, in the Great Boiling Valley, an area with active sulfur vents and hot springs. Photo by: Jaime Pérez

Hakone also boasts the widely celebrated Hakone Botanical Garden of Wetlands and an open-air museum, with masterpieces on display by renowned modern artists, including Picasso, Rodin, and Miro. However, it is Lake Ashi that steals the snow. It is set in a dreamlike landscape with snow-covered Fuji as a backdrop and the bright red torii gates of Hakone Jinja shrine to the fore.
