It is the second largest underground chamber in the world – big enough to fit ten jumbo jets into the floor space (also it is gigantic enough that the great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt would just about fit inside). Located in a remote area of the Selma Plateau at 1,380 m above sea level in the Sultanate of Oman, Majlis al Jinn is a single chamber measuring about 300 m by 200 m, with a domed ceiling 120 m high. The deepest part of the cave is 178 m. The volume of the chamber is approximately 4,000,000 m³ and covering an area of around 60,000m².

Lying halfway between the Orkneys and The Shetlands, Fair Isle is a tiny isolated island, with a population of about 70 souls. Just 4.8 km long and 2.4 km wide, it is probably the windiest of the British Isles. Way out in the Atlantic Ocean, some 66 km to the west of the Outer Hebrides, rises the Kilda Archipelago, with the exception of Rockall, the westernmost of British islands. St Kilda belongs to the National Trust for Scotland, and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Eisriesenwelt is a natural limestone ice cave located in Austria, about 40 km south of Salzburg. It is the largest ice cave in the world, extending more than 42 km of tunnels and chambers. Only the first kilometer, the area that tourists are allowed to visit, is covered in ice. The rest of the cave is made of limestone. Entry to the caves is regulated and a 75-minute tour takes in several immense caverns containing elaborate ice formations and frozen waterfalls.

It covers area of roughly 8,100 km² and an average thickness of 400 m and the greatest thickness of about 1100m. Vatnajokull is the largest glacier mass in Europe and the biggest glacier in Iceland. Anyone who ever wondered how Iceland got its name would likely find the answer in the fact that the country’s largest glacier alone covers more than 8% of the country. The total ice volume of the glacier is approximately 3300 km³.
