The glowing you see is actually given off by the glowworm’s mucus, which is covering those little silk strands they dangle down. The purpose of it is to attract bugs that navigate by starlight, who stumble onto a thread, get stuck, get tugged up, and get eaten.

So yes, it’s quite an attraction. Take the whole family for a look at H. P. Lovecraft’s Christmas lights.
