Jaco Island is a part of the Lesser Sunda Islands belonging to East Timor. It offers amazing natural landscapes – from majestic mountain ranges to grassy plains, from fabulous beaches to pristine coral reefs. The Island is a part of the protected Nino Konis Santana National Park and designated as a “Wild Area”. You can spend the time in bush walking, swimming and snorkeling in the pristine azure waters. The island covers an area of about 10 square km and is uninhabited. It is considered holy by the indigenous population, so setting foot on the island is forbidden. There are no accommodations but campers frequent the park.

Protecting over 22 miles of beach strip beginning from the mouth of the River Tortuguero south to Parisimina, this national park is 19,000 hectares. The main attraction of Tortuguero National Park is the turtles, also a number of crustaceans, and over 50 species of freshwater fish.The Leatherback , the largest sea turtle species in the world, nests from February to July.

On a 32 m/105ft high crag above the left bank of the Maine is the Angers castle, surrounded by stout defensive walls with 17 round towers. Much of the current chateau was constructed in the early 13th century. This castle was originally started by St Louis in 1230. The construction lasted ten years.

Located about 5 km from Williamstown, it’s one of the highest dams in Australia, known as the “Whispering Wall”. It has unique acoustic effects that sound to travel long distances. If you whisper at one end, you can be heard perfectly clearly at the other end more than 100 meters away. This has a simple explanation – the parabola effect, the curve of the wall allows the sound waves to bounce along the entire length. The dam was designed by the Irish-born engineer Alexander Moncrieff and the construction began in 1899 and was completed in 1903.
