The Chateau de Chaumont is a French castle. The castle sits on the bluff high above the town of Chaumont and overlooks the Loire Valley. The castle has had many owners, Catherine de Médicis bought Chaumont in 1560 and forced Diane de Poiters to accept it in exchange of Chenonceau.

Built in the 10thcentury, the chateau originally was intended to serve as a fortress. As withmost castles, it was burned and then rebuilt several times. The castle was burned to the ground in 1465 in accordance with Louis XI, Chaumont was rebuilt from 1465 to 1510 by Peter of Amboise. In 1560, Catherine de Medici, the widow of Henry II.

The present castle overlooking the River Loire with majesty is now so far different from the one built in the Middle Ages. Around the castle there is a big garden, that didn’t exist before the XVI century. In front of the drawbridge is the Southern wing on the left, the wing Is on the right which frames the chatelet of entry and which 2 turns confine.

The interior decoration especially reflects that of the Broglie family who owned the castle from 1875 to 1938.

The stables are located 50 meters from the castle, built by the Broglies and much more recent than the chateau.
