Pula, Croatia

Pula is situated on the Istria peninsula, Croatia, and with population over 62,000, it’s the largest city in Istria. With its mild climate – the sun shines for 2350 hours a year, it is an attractive place to spend a holiday for many tourists. The city has a long tradition of wine making, fishing, shipbuilding, and tourism. The natural beauty of Pula and turquoise blue water of the Adriatic have made the city an internationally popular summer vacation destination.

The coastal waters of Istria offers a wealth of diving possibilities, including wreck diving, boat diving and cliff diving, fishing, sailing to unspoiled coves and islands large and small. Pula is also a center of high quality sports facilities, such as tennis courts, sports halls, football stadiums, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, water sports facilities, etc.

Pula is full of large number of various cultural and historical monuments, and entertainment events throughout the year. The city is world famous for its many spectacular surviving ancient Roman buildings. The main sight is the Roman Amphitheater called the “Arena”, which during the Roman Empire could seat 26,000 spectators. Built during the 1st century AD, the three-story amphitheater is the sixth largest in the world and one of the best preserved from antiquity. It hosts the Pula Opera Festival in the summer and is also used for other events during the year.

Other attraction include the Triumphal arch of the Sergii, the Temple of Augustus, the Cathedral and the Franciscan Church and Monastery.
