The Apuan Alps
The Apuan Alps (Italy) are marble mountains with a naturalistic jewel, protected by a regional natural park, an ideal destination for nature-lovers. The picture displays an Italian village of Trassilico crowns a mountaintop in a region of Tuscany north of the city of Lucca.

There’re an incredible variety of flowers and rare plants. The 14th-century Ponte del Diavolo, or Devil’s Bridge, in Borgo a Mozzano.

The mountain village of Vagli di Sotto. Most of the Apuane Alps are covered by a web of trails providing routes from hamlet to hilltop and beyond. You will experience superb scenery, mountain wilderness and tranquility.

You can lose yourself in the Apuans, but it is almost impossible to become lost. For every trail, ultimately, connects to a village, a small road, or another trail. There is no wilderness. But there is that unpredictability so rare in much of modern travel.
