Roussalka is a holiday compound, situated in Taukliman Bay (Birds Bay), 18 km east of Balchik). This is a typical birds colony in a pretty rocky area near the sea. It is 14 km east of the town of Kavarna, 59 km north-east of Varna, 529 km north-east of Sofia.

The stretch of coastline from Kaliakra to Kamen Bryag, which includesRoussalka, also includes the Yailata reserve. This elongated bluff about a kilometer long by 200 meters wide has sheer cliff faces pockmarked with over 100 caves – some natural, others man-made. Also carved into the rock is a necropolis of 28 tombs, as well as a church with several chambers. It is thought that Yailata was a sanctuary for ancient Greeks who considered it a holy mountain.
The resort of Roussalka is a pretty new one as it was established in 1968 in the famous Taukliman  (Birds’ Bay in Turkish) – the latter declared a nature reserve. The resort is a real birds’ paradise, even if the number of its bird species has declined significantly after the resort started functioning.Several small bays offer different beach conditions – sand, pebbles, bigger stones and rocks. The underwater world is interesting due to the peculiar relief of the rocks. Divers can find good opportunities for practising. There is a small firth with curative mud, yachting facilities, and an open-air theatre.
