The most important building in the Islamic world was the mosque, followed by the royal palace. Mosques, as the center of worship, were among the first buildings erected in the Islamic world. Masjid-i-Shah, Iran was built as the space for public worship in the new urban plan for Isfahan by Shah Abbas. The mosque is one of the most well known Tourist Attractions in Isfahan which you cannot miss while you are on your Isfahan Tours.
Masjid-i-Shah mosque – the culmination of a thousand years of Persian architecture, virtually untouched since its completion in 1638. Almost the entire surface of the vast, airy building is covered with exquisite glazed tiles. Swallows sweep across its tranquil inner courtyard, the arc of their flight as elegant as the line of receding arches. Tile mosaic and glazed-tile decoration is here brought to a peak of perfection both in the iwans and in the great dome.
