Green Roof

The American Society of Landscape Architects built an innovative green roof on Washington DC headquarters. The Green roofs are something common in America, because in the city centres businessmen need green environment to relax and chill during their break. So there’re plenty of wide roofs, which make sense to be made something useful.

The 3300sq ft roof is replete with diverse plantings and surface materials. It even has its own topography.

At the entrance to the roof, the designer has created two elevated “waves” formed by rigid insulation and covered with a green roof system. While these forms provide visual interest they also serve the more practical function of hiding the building’s HVAC units. Surrounding the waves is a green roof system with aluminum grating that allows visitors to walk on the roof without damaging it. Chairs and tables are placed to encourage visitors to make the journey up.
