Avalon, New Jersey

Avalon is a small shore town in New Jersey on Seven Mile Island. It is also part of the Ocean City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is popular with being a seashore resort.

Appeal to the fact that the population of Avalon is far less than that of nearby shore towns like Wildwood and Ocean City. Lot sizes tend to be generous for the shore, and building restrictions limit height and the footprint of houses on those lots. Beaches are broad, and dunes have been built to protect the borough from floods.

But the town is really expensive. The rising of the properties have forced restaurants and department stores to chare more and there’s a former retail strip in the middle of town became condo complexes.

Almost everyone drives, though Atlantic City International Airport is about 30 minutes away. The drive from New York, using the Garden State Parkway, takes about two and a half hours, longer with traffic. The drive from Philadelphia is about 90 minutes.
