Haydn Planetarium, New York City

The Haydn Planetarium is situated in the American Museum of Natural History, New York. Each year the planetarium launches visitors on a thrilling trip through space and time to explore cosmic collisions, hypersonic impacts that drive the dynamic and continuing evolution of the universe. The Hayden Planetarium is unlike any other museum place in the whole world. It’s worth it to go and see it! In the top half of the Hayden Sphere, the most technologically advanced Space Theater use advanced visual technology to create shows of unparalleled sophistication, realism, and excitement. With this high-definition system, the Hayden Planetarium is the largest and most powerful virtual reality simulator in the world.

At the bottom half of the Hayden Sphere (Big Bang) visitors will be transported to the beginning of time and space, experiencing a dramatic re-creation of the universe. From here, visitors continue on an awe-inspiring journey that chronicles the evolution of the universe by following the Harriet and Robert Heilbrunn Cosmic Pathway — a sloping walkway that takes them through 13 billion years of cosmic evolution.

When you get there the direct entrance is on the north side of the Museum on West 81st Street, just west of Central Park West. Access is also available through the Museum from Central Park West at 79th Street. As well as the museum features the Cosmic Shop, created for children and located on the second floor of the center, features space-related toys and games. The main Museum Shop, located in the Museum near Central Park West, is a spectacular triplex retail space, featuring a variety of merchandise from around the world that reflects the Museum’s exhibitions of human cultures, the natural world, and the universe.
