Lake Bled is one of
Slovenia’s most popular tourist area, next to the town of Bled. The lake was formed when the Bohinj glacier receded. It is 2120 m long, 1380 m wide and up to 30.6 m deep. Nowhere in the world is there a more lovely place, than this paradise and its surroundings. The island in the middle of
Lake Bled is without doubt one of the premier attractions of the area, which surprises and charms every visitor. Surrounded by mountains and forests, today Bled is a modern holiday resort with many
hotels, private accommodation facilities, a camp site, wellness centers, and a golf course.

After the last Ice Age, the
Bohinj Glacier deepend its natural tectonic hollow and gave it its present form. When the ice melted the basin was filled with water. The lake has no considerable affluents except some streams. The thermal springs in the northeast part are captured in three swimming pools: at the Toplice Grand Hotel, Park Hotel and Golf Hotel.

The
castle in the middle of the lake has for centuries been a symbol of Bled, a much-visited attraction. It stands on a sheer cliff above Lake Bled and is one of the oldest castles in Slovenia, dating back to the 11th century. It is highly likely that, at that time, on the land where the castle stands today there was simply a Romanesque tower surrounded by a protective wall.

The lake provides thousands of opportunities for seekers of beauty, relaxation, inspiration, peace and sporting challenges. Romantic walks or a carriage ride around the lake, a
traditional pletna-boat ride to the idyllic church on Bled Island, a visit to the imposing castle, the nearby ski slopes, alpine paths,
golf courses,
fishing or the casino – these are just a few of the attractions of Bled.
Slovenia is one of the places I’d love to visit, a totally different take on European holidays
I’ve been to Bled, it was beautiful-
The castle is not in the middle of the lake, it is on a cliff overlooking the lake, the island has a tiny church on it – make sure you ring the bell in the church for good luck!
Slovenia is incredible! There are many many more beautiful, and less touristy places than Bled, though!

Being of Slovenian descent, and the fact that my family is from the town of Bled, going to Lake Bled was a magical experience. I recommend the trip to anybody, Slovenian or not.
Great pics of this breathtaking landscape. I’ve been to Bled 2 times already, always combined it with a visit to Europe’s coolest festival,
the Metal Camp in Tolmin / Slovenia.
The whole area of the Triglav national park is absolutly stunning. Really one of the most beautiful places of Europe.
Kind Regards,
Andreas
Breathtaking and beautiful…
thats my house
I went to Slovenia in 2008 with my mother and brother, on a heritage tour of sorts (our ancestors are from Slovenia). We went to Bled and had a wonderful time soaking in the beauty. My brother, an avid cyclist, took his bike on a many-hour ride around the surrounding mountains, and said it was a great ride. Dinner at a restaurant by the lakeside was very nice. Picked up some goods sold by local artists, now they’re keepsakes of the trip. Loved Ljubljiana, too! And, also not to miss is Piran on the coast. Ptuj in eastern Slovenia was very interesting as well. Loved Lasko beer, wish they’d export it to the U.S.!
