The winner of the 2006 World Travel Award: Katitche Point Greathouse, British Virgin Islands

This 21st-century “great house” was designed by the renown British architect Michael Helm, whose buildings are often featured in Architectural Digest magazine, this property is yet another masterpiece of superb design. Katitche Point Greathouse Villa is an oasis of luxury, relaxation, and some of the most outstanding views in the British Virgin Islands. The villa lies just above a panoramic sweep of Mahoe Bay and its beach. Two white sand beaches with coral reefs and crystal clear waters are nearby. Sitting high above the water, the villa offers vistas in every direction – over to the Atlantic ocean, across the Caribbean Sea and along which many of the BVI islands rise from turquoise blue waters.

The villa offers all amenities of a five-star hotels and the total privacy of a family home. The 10ft horizon pool area is breathtaking and appears to be suspended in space above gorgeous Pond and Savanna Bays. Affording total privacy, it can only be rented as a complete villa for up to 13 people, with more than 185 sq. m of living space. This luxury vacation spot has an infinity pool, four suites, and one master bedroom, which is secluded and set apart from the rest of the villa. The main structure of the villa is shaped like a pyramid, rising three floors. Decor is a Zen mix of teak built-ins, antiques, and acres of space; laundry, snorkel gear, toys, and advice are free—optional car rental and an in-house chef are not. A spacious deck includes a large gas grill and sink, lots of comfortable lounge chairs, and the horizon pool which visually seems to flow into Savannah Bay far below.

Each room has large expanses of glass doors and windows to take advantage of the views – indoor areas flow into outdoor patios, verandas, and terraces. Deck railings are cleverly made of almost invisible steel cables to give totally unobstructed views, rather than made from obtrusive wood. The view below is from the two guest rooms’ veranda overlooking the pool and Tortola.

Virgin Gorda is an oasis of serenity and scenic beauty waiting to be explored. Visit The Baths, pools and grottos formed by giant boulders strewn across the sands. Rent a boat and scud about the islands or enjoy snorkeling and scuba diving. Take advantage of comprehensive guest services provided for your convenience, or simply relax in a hammock or on a luxuriant bank of pillows at the rooftop Crow’s Nest.
