Cape Town, South Africa’s most beautiful city - nestled against the splendour of Table Mountain is a paradise for the visitor. The Southern coast of Africa and the incomparable Garden Route offer some of the most outstanding scenery to be found anywhere in the world - from the top of Table Mountain by revolving cable car to the mythical meeting place of two great oceans at Cape Point. At the tip of the Cape Peninsula you will find Cape Point within the Cape Peninsula National Park. The treacherous cliffs forming the most southwestern tip of Africa are some of the highest in the world and mark the spot where the cold Beguela current on the West coast and the warm Agulhus current on the East coast merge. At Cape Point, part of the Cape Peninsula National Park, there are many drives, walks, picnic spots and a licensed restaurant. Care has been taken to protect the environmental integrity of this 7 750-ha reserve of indigenous flora and fauna.
Depart for a full day Cape Peninsula tour. Travel via Houtbay to the Cape of Good Hope for a visit. The journey continues to Cape Point, often referred to as the “meeting point” of the Indian and the Atlantic Oceans. The Cape Point Nature Reserve was created to protect the southern most tip of the Peninsula which is home to an assortment of indigenous fauna and flora. A visit to the Cape Pont Ostrich Farm followed by lunch. After lunch continue to Simonstown, home of the South African Navy. Close by Boulders Beach, to enjoy the African Penguin Colony by walking along specially constructed timber walkways to view these amazing birds in their natural environment. Afterwards to enjoy a guided tour at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. The garden has 9000 of the 18000 indigenous flowering plant species.
An early Ocean Beach Reserve was established at Sorrento last century and walking tracks and shelters were built. Cape Schanck Coastal Park was established in 1975. It became Point Nepean National Park in 1988, when part of the historic Point Nepean area, previously closed to the public for more than 100 years, was transferred from the Commonwealth to the State. The park was renamed Mornington Peninsula National Park in 1995 and the historic section of Point Nepean, Point Nepean National Park in 2005. A number of vegetation communities, particularly coastal grassy forests, banksia woodlands and sand heathlands, have been greatly depleted since European settlement and are of particular conservation significance.
