French kissers set new world record

Hundreds couples took part in a Parisian World Record-setting “Kiss-In”. October 16 in
Province town. More than 2,600 participants gathered at the steps at high noon for the 12 second kiss. Thousands of Parisians gathered for a smooch on Thursday to try to break the world kissing record, but they weren’t able to do so. On a day devoted to worldwide record breaking, just 1,188 kissers showed up in Paris in an attempt to break the Budapest’s 2006 world record for 11,570 people kissing in one spot at one moment, according to the Guinness World Records officials.

The French are famed for their habit of greeting each other with a kiss. So it should come as no surprise to discover that on November 9, 2006, some 1188 Parisians greeted each other in the traditional way at La Defense in Paris, France, and set a new world record for the largest number of people kissing simultaneously. The far from snogging crowd were made up of parents and children, married couples… and even the recently acquainted, with kissing restricted to no less than a five-second peck on the cheek, lips, forehead or nose. While thousands of Parisians gathered for a smooch on the streets, wacky record attempts took place everywhere.

On a day devoted to worldwide record-breaking, the French have invoked their spirit of romance and attempted the largest ever mass kiss. Romantics were undeterred by the small turnout and sought to preserve Paris’s reputation. The event in Paris was part of the a record-breaking effort organized by Guinness World Records, which staged events from the Americas to Asia, including the world’s biggest chess game in Mexico, the largest underwater press conference in Canada, and a record for the most kites flown simultaneously.
