Known to locals as “L5P”, Atlanta’s Little Five Points has long been one of the city’s most distinctive areas, a neighborhood whose offbeat flavor and affinity for the avant-garde have made it a favorite haunt of scores of artists and musicians. Come late October, those same folks must share the streets with a veritable cavalcade of ghouls, ghosts and goblins – all in the “spirit” of good fun, of course. In addition to the colorful parade, this annual celebration of costumes includes plenty of jack-o-lanterns, lots for the kids to do, and tons of spectacular sights.
This zany Halloween Parade begins at 5pm and will consist of marching musical units, self-built floats, specialty units, inflatable balloons, and neighborhood celebrities. Displays will include the world famous Seed & Feed marching Abominable, the Atlanta Freedom Marching Band, the Queen of Leather, the Queen of Tattoo, drag queens, punk queens, rollerbladers, bicyclers, motorcycle enthusiasts, art cars, and L5P drill teams. Also participating are dancing witches, red devils, ghosts, purple wizards, black cats, and the Queen of Little Five Points on her giant pumpkin float.
The audience is likely to see old women in a Kazoo band, a puppet ship with a full set of sails, a Statue of Liberty stabbed in the chest, a group of bulldogs on leashes all dressed as Batman, skeletons playing the tuba, skeletons dressed as Krispy Kreme employees, brides and grooms, brides and brides, grooms and grooms, politicians, and madrigal drum corps. Onlookers have been entertained by walking Scrabble tiles that rearrange themselves to spell various words; decks of playing cards shuffling up the avenue; and armies of chess pieces marching in regiments of black and white, with small children as pawns.

A tour of Graceland Cemetery, one of the city’s oldest and most famous cemeteries, is not to be missed. Daley Plaza also plays host to a variety of “Chicagoween” activities throughout Halloween weekend. Parade draws more than 30,000 costumed participants and spectators estimated at 2 million. The Parade is covered by all media-local, national and worldwide.
