Four seasons of the beauty

forsidethe orchard

Hardanger Fjord, which is located 75km east of Bergen, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Norway. Hardangerfjord in the is the third largest fjord in the world and the second largest in Norway. This scenic area offers virtually every kind of natural landscape available in the country, from scenic waterways, apple and cherry orchards, and hiking trails, to mountain plateau. Hardanger is a name that Norwegians associate with blossom and fruit. In truth is the orchard of Norway! Who would believe that you can grow apples, pears, plums and even cherries at 60° north?

Hardanger Fjord
The village is second largest fjord and one of the most scenic, it extends inland north-eastward for 113 km from Stord Island, at its entrance in the North Sea, to the Hardanger Plateau and has a maximum depth of 891 m. Majestic mountains (rising to about 5,000 feet), from which pour many magnificent waterfalls. Hardanger… the garden of Fjord Norway – through four seasons of beauty. The tourist road Hardanger, R-7 takes you to and through one of Norway’s most famous holiday areas.

Hardanger offers a variety of cruises. Order your tailor made fjord cruise. Hire your own boat, cabin cruiser or Hardanger cutter. Towards the west the terrain becomes more uneven, providing a vista of Hardangerjkulen glacier and the natural scenery of western Norway. The Steinsdalsfossen waterfall – one of Norway’s best known and most photographed waterfalls. A path goes behind the waterfall, and it can be admired from behind. This is the waterfall that represented Norway during Expo 2000 in Hannover Although the road down passes through several tunnels, the old road remains as a tourist attraction, a legacy of bold highway engineers.

The culture and the traditions are strong in Hardanger. The Hardangervidda Natursenter is perhaps the most modern nature and heritage experience centres in Norway. The nature centre provides information about, and lets you experience, geology, botany, glaciology, zoology, archaeology and ornithology. The Hardangervidda Natursenter at Eidfjord is an unusual experience. Hardanger Folk Museum in Utne focuses on the past and the present. This is Hardanger – a mixture of cold and warm, wilderness and quiet idylls, of old traditions and modern times!
