Ireland’s most beautiful region

The Dingle Peninsula is perhaps the most intriguing and beautiful part of Ireland. To enjoy the experience, one really needs to spend at least 3 days exploring the peninsula. Dingle Peninsula is the most northerly of the mountainous headlands of Kerry in Ireland. The Peninsula at its most dramatic can be seen by travelling north-eastwards from Dingle to Tralee, through the heights of the Conor Pass that reveals sight of the summit of Mount Brandon, Ireland’s second highest peak. Breathtaking Dingle Peninsula spans over 48 km of rugged green mountains, golden sandy beaches, glacial valleys, and deep verdant woods.

The Dingle Peninsula combines everything that is legendary about Ireland: a wild and remote coastline, rugged mountains and abundant reminders of Ireland’s rich history and culture. The Dingle Way makes a circuit of this enchanting corner of Ireland. Dingle is had a friendly dolphin called Fungi living in its natural harbour for over 20 years. Did you know that explorer Tom Crean who travelled to the south pole owned a pub which was run by his family in Annascaul? Did you know that Dingle has the most famous traditional music playing regularly in local pubs, with award winning restaurants, water sports, angling, walking, trekking?

There are some prehistoric beehive huts on the dingle peninsula. These are huts people made by piling rocks together. They were built from pre-Celtic times through the early Christian era.

The Dingle Peninsula is less than forty miles away and was the setting for the films Ryan’s Daughter and Far And Away. The Slea Head drive around the western most tip of the Dingle Peninsula brings one to Dunquin, the most westerly village in Europe, and the splendid Kruger Kavanagh’s bar where you can drink the most westerly pint of Guinness in Europe, before visiting the 7th century Gallarus Oratory, a drystone chapel still waterproof after a thousand years. About 4 – 5 hours. It’s very dark inside, there is only one door and one very small window. This looks just like a large door. It’s fascinating what effects simple erosion by water can cause to rock.
