The National Gallery of
Canada located in the capital city Ottawa, Ontario. It is one of Canada’ premier art galleries Designed by architect
Moshe Safdie and opened in 1988 at its current location on Sussex Drive. This treasure house in granite and glass is the home of Canada’s exceptional art collection. It develops, maintains, and promotes, throughout Canada and internationally, a collection of both historic and contemporary art with special, but not exclusive, reference to Canada.

It furthers knowledge, understanding, and enjoyment of art in general among all Canadians. The inside of the Gallery, of course, houses many of Canada’s great artistic treasures and features many exhibitions of international artists throughout the year. The spacious Canadian galleria reflect the core and substance of artistic tradition and innovation in Western culture. The installation of painting and sculpture, arranged in chronological order, begins with the Middle Ages and proceeds until the beginning of the twentieth century.

The collections occupy the exhibition space on the upper floor of the main wing. The collection of both historic and contemporary art with special, but not exclusive, reference to Canada. Collections- Canadian and Aboriginal Art; European and American art; Modern Art;Contemporary Art; Photographs Collection; Canadian and European Prints and Drawings; The collection of contemporary Inuit art attests to the vitality of the fine arts in the Arctic and in particular to the imagination and talent of its artists, as expressed in stone, bone, drawings, prints and textiles.

The works in this collection are on display in the
Inuit Galleries. The art of the Inuit and First Nations are also very beautiful.
The Giant Spider Maman is one of the newest (and most expensive) additions to
the National Art Gallery collection. It’s drawn a lot of attention since she was was unveiled close to Mother’s Day in 2005 Arguably the most beautiful structure in the nation’s capital, and certainly a spectacular addition to Ottawa’s skyline.
