National Gallery
The National Gallery of Canada located in the capital city Ottawa, Ontario. It is one of Canada’ premier art galleries Designed by architect Moshe Safdie and opened in 1988 at its current location on Sussex Drive. This treasure house in granite and glass is the home of Canada’s exceptional art collection. It develops, maintains, and promotes, throughout Canada and internationally, a collection of both historic and contemporary art with special, but not exclusive, reference to Canada.

The inside of the Gallery, of course, houses many of Canada’s great artistic treasures and features many exhibitions of international artists throughout the year. The spacious Canadian galleria reflect the core and substance of artistic tradition and innovation in Western culture. The installation of painting and sculpture, arranged in chronological order, begins with the Middle Ages and proceeds until the beginning of the twentieth century.

The works in this collection are on display in the Inuit Galleries. The art of the Inuit and First Nations are also very beautiful. The Giant Spider Maman is one of the newest (and most expensive) additions to the National Art Gallery collection. It’s drawn a lot of attention since she was was unveiled close to Mother’s Day in 2005 Arguably the most beautiful structure in the nation’s capital, and certainly a spectacular addition to Ottawa’s skyline.

  • Hi, I am part of a volunteer group that is planning a Seminar at the National Gallery in Ottawa in June of this year to celebrate the Centennial of Harvard Business School. Could we use a cropped thumbnail version of the photograph of the exterior of the National Gallery that is included in this article, with appropriate credits of course as you wish.

    Cheers,
    David Baird.
