Gibraltar and The Rock

gibraltar.jpg

First time visitors will be pleasantly surprised with the diverse range of attractions on offer in Gibraltar.
Steeped in a history that has evolved from its strategic location at the southernmost tip of the Iberian Peninsula, where Europe meets Africa, visitors are assured of breathtaking scenery, wildlife and architecture, that captures the unique flavour of this Mediterranean City and its inhabitants.
The Rock of Gibraltar, on the south coast of Spain, is a beacon on the narrow strait separating Africa from Europe. The only free-ranging monkeys in Europe inhabit dens in high reaches on the rock.
A lot of its charm resides in the famous Barbary Macaques, the only wild monkeys in the continent, 250 of whom roam free in the nature reserve that makes up most of the rock. It is said that when the apes leave Gibraltar, so too will the British. But Gibraltar – “The Rock” or simply “Gib” to most people – is also home to over 27,000 people and its VAT-free shopping is another attraction, as is the cable car that takes tourists to the top of the rock itself. Yet it is the sense of history that makes Gibraltar special
