The Semper Opera was originally built in 1838-1841 by architect Gottfriende Semperper. The magnificent building saw many premieres of works by Richard Wagner, who arrived in Dresden one year Semper Opera House was completed. Semper Opera House was destroyed again in February 1945 during the heavy allied bombardments and subsequent fires which laid the whole city in ruins. The building was reconstructed forty years later. It reopened in February 1985. This remains true to this day, although it has been rebuilt twice since its original construction.Don’t give up too quickly though, because a night at the opera in Dresden is a great experience. The interior decoration of the opera house is beautiful, the acoustics are outstanding, the orchestra is good and with any luck you will also get to see and hear some fine singers. The Opera features an Italian Renaissance style and is a good example of the artistic designs of its time. Semperper today remains a symbol Dresden’s beauty and resilience.
