From a long glorious times…The Arch of Triumph in Paris

Arc of triumph
The Arc of Triumph, the world’s largest triumphal arch, forms the backdrop for an impressive urban ensemble in Paris. The monument surmounts the hill of Chaillot at the center of a star-shaped configuration of 12 radiating avenues. It is the climax of a vista seen the length of the Champs Elysees, es from the smaller Arc of Triumph du Carrousel in the Tuileries gardens, lisque de Luxor in the place de la Concorde.the arc The structure is modeled after the Arch of Triumph in Paris. It is the largest arch in the world, standing sixty meters high and fifty meters wide, and was deliberately built to be larger than the one in Paris (51 meters high and 45 meters wide). The Arch of Triumph is a stone edifice piled up with over 10,500 pieces of finely-dressed white granite. The arch has dozens of rooms, balustrades, observation platforms and elevators. It also has four vaulted gateways, each twenty-seven meters high, decorated with azalea carved in their girth. Inscribed in the Arch is the “Song of General Kim II Sung”, a revolutionary hymn, and the year 1925, when North Korean history states that Kim set out on the journey for national liberation and the year 1945, the end of World War -2 , which ended the Japanese occupation. The Arc of Triumph keeps the of all the dead killed in World War I (1914/1918) with the grave of the unknown soldier and a permanently burning flame of remembrance. At national days, a flag is stretched through the arch.
Ordered by Napoleon as a memorial to the French Grand Army, the triumphal arch was begun by the architect Chalgrin in 1806 and completed in 1836.The Arc de Triomphe is built on the model of ancient Triumphal Arches, but its monumental size: 50 meters tall and 45 meters wide, is typical of the Empire architecture. This arch offers a great whole of sculptures, the best known is a bas relief of Rude, depicting ” the departure of the volunteers in 1792 “, also called the Marseillaise.
arcIn 1961, President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy of the United States paid their respects at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, accompanied by French President Charles de Gaulle. After the 1963 assassination of President Kennedy in Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Kennedy remembered the eternal flame at the Arc of Triumph and requested that an eternal flame be placed next to her husband’s grave at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. President de Gaulle went to Washington to attend the state funeral, and he was able to witness Jacqueline Kennedy lighting the eternal flame that was inspired by her visit to France.
