More than 30 000 athletes participate in New York Marathon

For many, running a marathon is their ultimate athletic ambition, and taking on the challenge in New York is one memorable way to raise money for charity. With luck, you might even find yourself tackling the 26-mile course alongside someone famous: previous participants include Oprah Winfrey, Hillary Clinton and Sir Ranulph Fiennes, to name three. Over the last 31 years, the famous blue line marking the New York City Marathon route has seen brilliant performances, heartbreaking defeats, and more stories of individual triumph than any one person could ever hope to document.
new_york_marathon.jpgListen closely. What you’ll hear is the fast-approaching sound of 30,000 athletes, making their way to the most famous finish line in the world. The sound rises from the streets; it echoes off the city’s skyscrapers, it reverberates through its vibrant neighborhoods. And it sounds like a symphony. A symphony on the world’s greatest stage. This year’s run takes place on 6 November and non-US runners can apply to participate - though entry cannot be guaranteed as the marathon tends to be over-subscribed. But if you have the commitment, go for it - and good luck!
