Yosemite – the other side of the rainbow

 Yosemite National Park, one of the first wilderness parks in the United States. The National Park is 200 miles east of San Francisco and a 6 hour drive from Los Angeles. It is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles, you can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, a vast wilderness area, and much more. Sprayed by thousand-foot waterfalls and framed by monumental granite spires – it is the most famous glacially carved landscape in the world. Yosemite offers outdoor adventures through all four seasons.

The various areas of the Park and for all levels of activity. Yosemite receives most of its precipitation in the months of January, February, and March. Summers are typically warm and dry. The weatherman is forecasting beautiful California weather for Yosemite making this a perfect time to come visit. Sentinel Dome -considered by locals to be the best viewpoint in Yosemite. From the top at 8,100′, approximately 80% of Yosemite National Park can be seen in a 360 degree panorama. This is an easy 3/4 mile hike with a very short moderate section near the top of the dome.

The Yosemite region has something for everyone. There are approximately 4 million people that visit Yosemite each year. The park ranges from 2,000 feet above sea level to more than 13,000 feet and has these major attractions; alpine wilderness, three groves of Giant Sequoias and the glacially carved Yosemite Valley with impressive waterfalls, cliffs and unusual rock formations. Our centrally-located, year-round accommodations are within a 30-minute drive to Yosemite Valley with its high cliffs and roaring waterfalls, historic Wawona with its wonderful History Center, Mariposa Grove with its giant redwoods and Glacier Point with its eagle’s-eye view of Yosemite Valley and Half Dome. For winter skiers, it’s only 7 miles to the Badger Pass.

Hiking in the Yosemite National Park can be a fun and rewarding experience as in other national parks. It is a great way to both see and experience the park. Yosemite is one of the world’s greatest climbing areas. Yosemite is not just a climber’s playground, however, its walls and crags are an integral part of a larger ecosystem, protected as wilderness, that was set aside for people to enjoy in a natural state for generations to come. Yosemite’s streams and river fishing season is closed until the April. All lakes and reservoirs are open to fishing year-round. Rafting along the Merced River is popular during summer. You can rent a raft or bring your own.

Nowhere else in the world is there such a concentration of major waterfalls. Waterfalls are a Yosemite hallmark, drawing visitors from around the globe year after year. El Captain Falls drops 1400 feet and often blows entirely away before reaching the bottom. Some falls, such as Cascade and Silver Strand. Waterfall walks and hikes can be short and easy to very strenuous and can be included as part of your tour, or can be the theme for the day. Some waterfalls are seasonal; drying up later in the summer. Your guide will help you choose the best waterfalls to see at the time of your tour.
