Resort activities are designed to allow guests to enjoy and, at the same time, learn about this very special island without impacting on the environment.
From August to October humpback whales, on their way south to the Antarctic from the warmer northern waters, stop to rest in Platypus Bay, just 30km or a 40 minute cruise north of the resort. The Kingfisher I has all-round viewing decks and is one of the fastest vessels in the Hervey Bay whale watch fleet so it ensures plenty of time is spent with the whales.
How to get there
Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village is just a 40 minute trip by fast catamaran from Urangan, Hervey Bay. Departures for passenger access operate four times per day. The vehicle barge operates three times per day from River Heads, 20 minutes south of Hervey Bay and is for 4WD access.The resort offers coach transfers between Urangan Boat Harbour and Hervey Bay Airport. These transfers must be pre-booked in conjunction with accommodation reservation at Kingfisher Bay Resort and an additional cost applies.
Hervey Bay is a 45 minute flight or four hour drive from the Queensland capital of Brisbane.
