Dunk Island is Australia’s most beautiful tropical rainforest island

dki01.jpg

Dunk Island Resort is one of the few island resorts both in Australia and the world that is suitable for all types of lifestyles, be it couples, honeymooners or families, with seclusion, peace and privacy along with a superb array of facilities, sports and activities. Dunk Island was known to the first inhabitants as ‘Coonanglebah’ – the isle of peace and plenty. Today, the palm-fringed beaches and lush rainforests of this tropical island are ideal for those who want to enjoy time out or the time of their lives.about_map.gifdunk_island_main_beach_big.jpg The resort is located in a National Park and lies midway between Townsville and Cairns, one of a few tropical islands that puts you within easy reach of the Great Barrier Reef.
With three quarters of the island designated as a National Park, the dense rainforest is home to a huge variety of native flora and fauna, including 150 species of birds, and the beautiful electric blue Ulysses butterfly (the island’s famous symbol). With a wingspan of up to 10 centimetres, making it one of the largest butterflies in Australia, and definitely the most beautiful.
With so many amazing activities to choose from on Dunk, it’s hard to decide what to do next. Horse-riding along the beach, rainforest walks, guided jet-ski tours, catamarans, try a tandem sky dive, a round of golf, or visiting the Island Farm. For a change of pace, get away from it all to a sun soaked beach with a gourmet picnic hamper or indulge yourself at the Spa of Peace and Plenty, with treatments designed to rejuvenate your mind, body and soul.
Dunk has a variety of restaurants and eateries designed to match your mood. The Beachcomber Restaurant more than caters for all those a la carte cravings. Then there’s EJ’s on the Deck, an island favourite with a savvy sidewalk cafe style. And BB’s on the Beach is great for a relaxing bite to eat. With a postcard view across the palm-fringed beach to distant islands, the Plantation Bar is perfect for a quiet drink together.dki11.jpgFor the family, Dunk is as good as it gets. The Kids Club has its own meal times and activities so that mum and dad can enjoy being a couple again. Imagine the freedom and romance of a sunset sail, knowing that the kids are in safe hands and having a ball. bayview suites
