The world’s largest casino isn’t in Monaco, or Las Vegas. It’s right here in NewFoxwood Resort Casino England,in Mashantucket, Connecticut and is open daily 24 hours. The year 2005 saw the grand opening of Lake of Isles, a Troon Golf club with two Rees Jones–designed 18-hole championship courses: the private South Course, available to members only, and the public North Course, available to resort guests and recognized by Travel & Leisure Golfas New England’s best new course. Golfers play around and over a scenic 90-acre lake.

Entertainment seekers need look no further than the resort’s Theatre District, which features the Fox Theatre, Foxwoods Arena, Club BB King, Hard Rock Cafe Foxwoods, and the Tree House—a two-story video, flight-simulator, and redemption-game arcade. The Theatre District stages everything from major concerts and Broadway shows to championship boxing matches. In 2005, Foxwoods launched a $700-million project to add nearly 2 million square feet of amenities, among them a fourth hotel, 115,000 square feet of meeting space, and a 4,000-seat multipurpose theater.
